CS 1.6.0 Solution: Run-time error:'13' Type Mismatch, Error 5899 : Metadata file missing or damaged.

I was very busy all these days and had just decided to abandon the blog. But thanks to the encouraging page views I got, I have decided now return. So here it goes..

Counter Strike is a popular game and I think, there is no need to describe it. But before using some 400 MB of your bandwidth, you should really read its review.

Game Pros:
  • No major system requirements.
  • High possibilities of experiments.
  • Nice game-play.
  • Hugely, popular.
  • Playing with others can be a lot of fun.
  • Fairly simple objectives.
  • Various Extras available on the net.
Game Cons:
  • Lacks Story.
  • Killing people as Terrorists won't excite some.
  • The Graphics won't please you much.

Conclusion:
If you were searching for a good game that could be played with your buddies and won't be heavy on your system, this is it.

  1. Download Counter Strike 1.6.
  2. If you are using a download manager like IDM, click 'Direct link', if not I recommend 'Download Now' option.
  3. Needless to say, the latter option is the add-supported one. Be a little careful of ads.

 Installation

  1. Open the setup and just click next, next and next.
  2. The download and setup, you would think is a cakewalk. But, it is not that really. Now, these are the problems, not necessarily now but it can sometime later, you would face and I recommend to bookmark this page.
Run-time error '13'
  • "Run-time error:'13' Type Mismatch" : Right-click the CS 1.6 shortcut and click properties and then 'Open file Location..'. A window will open. There will be 2 files named 'Launcher'. Delete the one with the icon of the configuration file. 
  • ‘Error 5899:Metadata file missing or damaged.’ : Right-click the CS 1.6 shortcut and click properties and then 'Open file Location..'. The folder will open. Open 'Half life.exe', then go to the options and then video and then finally change software to D3D .
  • "Component MSCOMCTL.OCX or one of its dependencies not currently registered ..." : Sometime certain Microsoft Libraries can become unregistered when installing and uninstalling a lot of software. One very common problem is the MSCOMCTL.OCX. To correct the error, first search your drive for MSCOMCTL.OCX to see if you have it. If not you can download it from here. The file should be placed in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. The file should be placed in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Or,if you are using WinXP. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.
